BriteVision is proud to introduce the "Autism Awareness Coffee Sleeve." Inspired by a young artist named Hikaru, this series of sleeves is dedicated to raising awareness for, and demonstrating the talents of, autistic children.

Autism is a complex neurobiological order that affects 1 out of 150 people, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe.

The first two releases come from the artist who inspired us to create this series. Hikaru's parents tell us,

"...from the beginning there were simple words, but they never developed into sentences. By the time she was three years old, UCLA had diagnosed Hikaru with autism.

When she was about three, the Day Care Center teachers said Hikaru knew colors. Between her fourth and fifth years she began drawing. "She has amazing control, she doesn't draw like a child" we were told by the teachers. We showed her how to color within different shapes. She would watch intently, extremely interested and then carefully imitate the process - drawing her own pictures. From then on, she would draw whenever she had time.

Hikaru's middle school teacher was outstanding. The teacher would read stories out loud and have the students illustrate them. She encouraged and developed Hikaru's artistic talents. Hikaru blossomed under the guidance of her teacher.

Despite her autism, Hikaru enjoys being around people and is always looking to make new friends. She is surrounded by many relatives and is a very happy child.

Hikaru expresses herself through her art. Bright and warm colors are her signature. Her inspiration comes from her vivid imagination, from the videos she watches and from people she encounters to create her own world. Her world is classically divided into the good and the evil."

BriteVision will be donating $5 for every case of "Autism Awareness sleeves" sold to the organization Autism Speaks. Visit www.autismspeaks.org for more information on how you can raise awareness and help fight this complex neurobiological disorder that affects 1 out of 150 people.
